The banalisation of English daily obsessions continues with GaryGate! It’s tragic and comical in equal measure like most melodramas this country has become used to…

The perverse thing in all this is that no one seems to think about the the truth, I.e. was Gary Lineker’s tweet true or not about uncomfortable parallels between Suella’s rhetoric and Nazi speeches! Instead, everyone’s knickers hav3 been twisted about a guy’s duty to be ‘impartial’. I often think the English simply don’t understand what balance or impartiality is!

Gary has been my hero since Mexico 86 so this latest melodrama around him enforces my respect for him.

Disintegration of a country/society is a slow, painful, and full of psychodramas. The last thing to disintegrate is a set of national fantastic narratives each nation needs to believe in order to exist. So called nations cling on to these stories of self delusion tenaciously because the alternative is too frightening... As we know, the UK is a champion in this kind of self-adoration, exceptionalism & its (mis) place in the world due to a carefully picked up set of stories & beliefs that are slowly becoming a farce. Sadly. This is the reading from the Gospel of People's Republic of Deptford. :) #linekerismyhero
