It was never going to work, was it?

a story of a broken oven

folks, it’s a disaster. the bus was Dom’s idea. don’t blame me.

It must be the most insane act of self mutilation.
Brexit is a result of Tory obsessions, fantasies and their desperate attempts to conserve the legacy of a dead empire and an order of things that only benefits them. Most of them are not bad people, just deluded and scared of losing privileges.
Brexit was a dirty game that benefits only the very few but sold to people with genuine grievances as a fantasy of an England that never was and that will never be.
Brexit is about the interconnected international corporate mafia that puts profit above everything else in a world of cowboy capitalism, with EU being is a thorn in the eye because it loves regulation and taxation.
Brexit is about privilege, not freedom
Brexit is a fantasy project that will haunt this country for decades.
Brexit is about fears of white people losing the grip in world domination  it's the big elephant in the room no one will talk about.
Brexit is about fear, not hope
Brexit is not over; it's not even started
Most voters didn't vote for this.
Brexit has made Britain un-British

The Tories are the cancer of England’s soul. Until she gets rid of them, she will always be on the brink of collective nervous breakdown. No other party has such a grip on a nation that does not dare ask too many difficult questions or wishes to cause a fuss. The Tories know this very well and will do everything to conserve this bizarre situation, in which most people will be quite solemn when claiming they ‘don’t discuss politics! !To most Europeans this looks very strange.

‘I don’t want facts, I don’t want figures! I want to leave the EU’ - a member of the audience on QT in 2016! How do you reason with someone like that? That single statement tells you everything you need to know about Brexit! Sadly.

The main reason for Brexit is unwillingness or inability to understand what UK was, what it is, and what it wants to be - a situation that’s been much more useful to the Right, who are better at deflecting from the real problems by stoking up fears, divisions plus a bit of flag waving. Tragic. We are poorer than than most countries at comparable level playing catch-up in a cycle of boom and bust.

Filling the Cracks

the vampire-in-chief, jacob rees-mogg, sewing patriotic flags with which he will fill the cracks in the badly built dam. what a hero.

Regardless of which side you’re on, Britain’s relationship with Europe is very complex and runs deep in the collective intellectual, cultural, economic and political spheres which can be debated for centuries without ever finding an answer.

It’s widely accepted that the real reason for Brexit is the perpetual civil war in the Tory Party, which developed a very peculiar neurosis about the whole thing. The main ideologues of Brexit are a fringe of wealthy right wing ideologues with a strong desire to create  the biggest financial black hole in the world so that a handful of very  rich people come to play and hide without paying much tax or declaring where the money is coming from. London already is a major money laundering centre but the core of these hardcore reactionaries want to dismantle the state as much as it is possible by removing as much regulation (red tape, as they call it) as they can so that  unbridled profit becomes the only wheel keeping things going. This vision is very scary but  because there is so much despair in the UK, they managed to dupe  enough people with obscene lies and fantasies, promising milk and honey in the new sovereign Albion! It was pompous, comical,  tasteless, baseless…  but it did strike a chord with some voters, who were already desperate and angry. The perverse formula of ‘success’ is made of a small group of very privileged right wing politicians who vent patriotic claptrap from the rooftops 24/7 to convince the most disadvantaged members of society that all their woes were caused by the EU  and foreigners living in the UK.  It was pretty nasty. It won’t work in the long run, but the damage will be felt for decades. England has become an  intellectual and emotional wasteland  as people refuse to talk about the stupidity of Brexit. brexit has simply poisoned England. everyone can see this but very few are prepared to talk about it. it’s very depressing….

taking back control of our cul-de-sac

‘globalists’

That Brexit was a stupid idea is clear to those who can see clearly.

Best illustration of this mindset is the current obsession with ‘globalists, who have apparently ‘staged a coup and want to undo Brexit’ totally forgetting that the argument for leaving EU was to create a ‘Global Britain’ boldly ruling the waves like a cosmic Boadicea, claiming its throne that was taken from her!!

What these lunatics fail to explain is what the alternative would be - Devon exporting to Wiltshire??

is it ready?

Just listen to this caricature of a ghost:

reasons for brexit are v complex and run deep in the psyche of post the  empire Britain but it would have not been possible without daily poison that is served to the country; main rags that keep the population in a perpetual state of panic are: daily mail, daily express, daily telegraph, the sun, etc… they have neither shame nor measure as long as they sell and make money for their owners and shareholders.. it appears that hate and prejudice sell better.

Paradox

The moral decline started with Thatcher, who managed to convince everyone that they didn’t have to worry about anyone but themselves.. She wasn’t completely successful in this dark ideology but did enough damage to reset the mindset of the country, in which greed is good. I don’t believe in hell but I think there must be one just for her.

The main four: Telegraph, Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Sun

Brexit has scarred the soul of this country and its standing in the world. britain is now increasingly seen as a global joke with a trump-clown pm shuffling his hair and flapping his arms whilst spewing obscure metaphors in a diction and rhythm that is not the usual way to speak English. I longer recognise this country, which upsets me deeply. It sometimes feels I am in Serbia  in late 80s. Paradoxically, nationalism first and foremost destroys the country it proclaims to love so much… you can never love your country by pitting it up against other nations… it will pass but I am worried the damage will be felt for much longer than I will be around for…

‘tightspiritness’ is an albanian word that springs to mind when thinking about what’s been done to england since thatcher’s time. as selfishness became cool, the nation’s character became darker, meaner, suspicious…  time will come when brits will erase her from the nation’s collective memory.

It’s been over a year since the cutting of the nose and no one really knows where this place is heading. It just all feels very weird. As if there is poison in the air. A friend of mine went to Edinburgh and said it felt marvellous and European. I think he got it in one sentence - England is  becoming small minded, paranoid, suspicious, neurotic… everything that it wasn’t when I first came in 1995. As it waits for the mysterious #BrexitBenefits. materialise, no one knows where and how it’ll end but the general mood and air is full of anxiety and uncertainty.  I am imagining #Shakesoeare #Blake #Keats, #Orwell #Mill, even #Adams… and many more who must be weeping for #England now. Jane Austen has probably defected to Heaven version of France or Ireland.. this is too much for her ;)))

false saints of nazionalfantasismus

Jacob Rees-Mogg is the most fitting caricature for Brexit.

a proud surfer taking back control of a car park in stratford. next project is a garage in tower hamlets:

broken britain

Brexit has broken Britain. There is no doubt about it. The evidence is everywhere. Everything seems so gloomy and hopeless after 12 years or Tory divisions and mismanagement. I am not even sure if they care.

Foolishly, they thought by getting rid of Boris Johnson they’d get some credibility and hope back but they have instead crash landed much quicker than anytime could have predicted. They elected a vacuous woman who was clearly not capable for such a big task as trying to steer the country when it neither knew what it was not what it wanted to be. The Tory membership chose feelings against logic, dragging everyone else with them so that the flame of a hopeless cause can keep burning until it turns us all into cinders. It is a very unsettling time as things are happening so quickly; no one dares to predict anything… Anything seems possible but none of the possibilities are good… it’s a matter of disaster management. It feels like we’re on the 50th floor of a building that has no lift or stairs and we can’t quite understand how we got there or how we will get down. Instead, we sit on the roof instead and wait for the stairs to magically appear…. There Is no doubt the Tories will bear the tag of the party that ruined it all for generations to come…

I want to be furious but I’m tearful. 17 Oct 2022.

A simple explanation of brexit is that it was and remains a false solution of problems that had nothing to do with Europe. It is a uK is a very unequal place made up of regions of communities that barely know or care about each other. Brexit will not resolve any of these issues; on the contrary, it is likely to deepen divisions and inequalities.

unprotecting our protections

despite how they sold it, brexit is all about the past, relying on old assurances in a very different world from what it is today. it more or less like a period costume drama, with britain being the dashing mr darcy, unaffected by napoleonic wars and general chaos everywhere in europe. as those assurances fall one by one in a world that is fast losing faith and respect for uk, the country will face some harsh music and realise that a lot of its ‘prosperity’ was based on faith and perception both in the uk and abroad.

a very likely outcome as the experiment fails monumentally

…. a little context is needed

It is very easy to be angry about Brexit. It’s very easy to despair about the most monumental act of self harm in history. It’s very easy to pack up and leave….. but, like everything else, Brexit needs to be put into context!

We live in a strange time in history, especially in the so called West, which seems to have been stripped of any belief, ideals or sense of belonging, where an aggressive form individualism has become the norm. We are constantly bombarded with simulated realities in which the individual has to fight the world single-handedly under immense pressure to be ‘happy’… outwardly, anyway. This happiness more or less comes to very basic aim: validation by conforming to the norms of superimposed consumerism.

Since the 60s, and much more aggressively since the 80s, a weird post modernist culture has enveloped every aspect of life. It’s become a firm of hyper-reality, which blurs the lines and aims to be more exciting than reality! It’s a culture that has increasingly become more voyeuristic, snoopy, judgemental… conformist and isolating in equal measure, where struggling individuals are constantly bombarded with images and messages which simulate a reality in which we have to achieve, grow, stand out in a world of unlimited possibilities!!! In so many ways, people are forced to live a double life: an inner, hidden life full of anxieties, questions, dilemmas… and a public life in which we are constantly beaming with ‘happiness and achievement’… weakness is either punished or fetishised in a perpetual state of victimhood. We have become a schizophrenic society, full of confusing and conflicting images that so many people are finding difficult to navigate and you can’t blame them.

It is clear that wild capitalism propagated by Neo-Liberals as the new religion that has no other ideal but personal wealth has failed in its own game. This cut throat capitalism that only believes in the sanctity of the markets has created a culture of vulgarity, spite and fear. We have stopped believing in or striving to build a better future collectively… all we are forced to believe is unbridled consumerism that is both ugly and soulless…

So how is a struggling guy on minimum wage in Rochdale or Scunthorpe going to fit in this brave new world? Well, he isn’t meant to fit in. He or she is surplus to requirement. He or she has failed to be happy and it must be someone’s fault - a perfect territory for little fascists like Nigel Farage and a shameless opportunist like Boris Johnson to step in and offer them a very simple solution - leave EU so that we can build a Britannic Utopia of milk and honey where English people can be proud again (falsely creating a narrative that this is currently not possible)!! Brexit is a particularly British response to a global problem of an economic and cultural ideology, it would be unfair to say that it’s worse in the UK… Fascism is creeping back in all kinds of forms in Europe and in America. Russia has already fallen into the claws of rabid nationalism, which is pure fascism in all but name..

I wish I could guess how it will all go… it feels we are in the edge of a very deep ravine but it also feels like we just need to reach the next turn that will take us into a new, fairer, kinder, reasonable future.

(this is much better and more eloquently explained in Adam Curtis’ films, which I strongly recommend)
