berlin berlin berlin

I had a wonderful time in Berlin between 30 Dec to 4 Jan. everything felt more positive, open minded, tolerant, vibrant… it is my second time to visit there was still so much more to see and do. Berlin is a truly European city, ticking all the boxes of a cosmopolitan metropolis although it somehow feels subdued, a bit shy,  a bit naughty and very creative…  it doesn’t scream like London and Paris do. Sometimes. I was particularly impressed by so many messages throughout the city welcoming refugees and supporting Ukraine. Germany has had its hard lesson but it somehow feels the healthiest nation in Europe… looking forward, not stuck in the past with delusions of grandeur and self importance. I truly hope Germany won’t be infected with the virus of nationalism and even fascism that seems to be sweeping across Europe. We need her to lead now more than ever before. The

After five days in a city that felt very positive, exciting and playful being back to London felt like coming to a war zone! No trains. Waiting for the bus involved waiting in the queue for over two hours with no guarantee you’d get on a bus until god knows when. I ended up taking a taxi with a chatty Italian student at LSE for £150! At least he was an interesting young man studying climate change, hoping to change the world. I wish him best of luck. I think we need to change quite a few things..

Regardless of the transport disasters (and other ones), London is home. I know how she breathes, twists and turns. How she kisses and how she slaps. We’ll be ok. I will always be a Londoner.
