we-are-betterism

The latest spasm to have gripped the nation is a fierce debate about how racist UK is, following comments by a (Canadian, I think) commentator that there has been a ‘backlash of racism’ in the UK following the appointment of a Prime Minister of Asian origin.

Of course, the general debate seeks to confirm that we are better than this and that the UK is not racist! Endless phone calls on LBC to express outrage that someone would dare speak about UK like this. So far so good… we all agree that we are better but no one seems to mention the point that, like everything else, racism in UK is much more subtle. Brits simply are too scared to show how they feel so they generally resort to passive aggression to sabotage something they don’t like.. generally speaking…  of course, England is also known for excellent oratory and debate but this is usually reserved for a small proportion of usually very posh people who are allowed to be ‘eccentric’ … Otherwise passive aggression is the default position … racism is no exception.

(then you have the Daily Mail that ticks all the fascist boxes but that’s alright… it’s not face ti face confrontation, which must be avoided as at any cost)
