the ex school beau

County Hall

I attended a packed up politics conference in County Hall with a 'great' line up of speakers: Keir Starmer, Sajid Javid, Ben Wallace, Hilary Ben, Margaret Becket, David Gauke, Wes Streeting... i.e. a good slither of British political hoi-polloi!

Starmer was tepid. Sits on a fence with a massive splinter up his bum; really difficult to see him win an election, despite facing a totally disgraced clown and a discredited party! I just can't quite get him,... he seems so scared of saying what he really believes in, which is alienating both flanks of the Labour Party.

Hilary Ben said something that confirmed my ranting that's been going on for a while; 'the world is too connected now and you can't act in  isolation; this is primarily due to the internet. While it used to be possible to keep people in large parts of the world uninformed about the massive difference between the poor and the rich, this is not possible anymore as people across the world can see on their phone how life COULD be! Nowadays, what happens in London is cascaded across the word in a matter of seconds, stirring enough people to make all kinds of decisions... in this global world, every government will have to keep this in mind: there will be global trends that now government tackle in

isolation!!

Otherwise, the general tone of the conference, regardless of who spoke, was like an ex school beau standing in front of the mirror and realising the looks have long gone and that girls won't be chasing him a they used to! He now wants to fix his nose, his cheeks, his thighs.... not realising he will only become uglier.

High Points:

Seeing County Hall from inside

Buying 'Who Are We Now' by Jason Cowley. who also signed it!
