As the day of the Mediaeval coronation approaches, the tawdriness of it all intensifies and becomes ubiquitous and overwhelming… the radio doesn’t talk about anything else now.., all kinds of experts are invited to share their knowledge of the royal panto that can trace its ceremonies and pomp to King Richard 2nd, who wa# quite peculiar, poor thing.
If you haven’t lived in this country for 30 years, you’d be baffled by this bizarre obsession with an institution that is totally dated and ridiculous. Even people who are giving these talks believe it’s are ridiculous but, as England’s future looks pretty bleak, she clings on to the past for dear life.
Personally, I don’t thing the Monarchy will survive beyond Charles but stranger things have happened. We may even get a Chinese Emperor… who knows
