A phrase I first heard Giannis Varufakis use and it stuck immediately.. he was talking about bit multinational companies such as Amazon who are such a big part of our lives, shaping our taste and habits through algorithms that are constantly changing and adapting to ‘learn’ from us so that it can collect higher profit for a tiny minority, which is a little bit like mediaeval landlords collected ground rent!! Bizarrely, the new gadgets have become like land was for mediaeval landlords…we depend on them to the point of almost being tied like serf to land.
Definitely needs more looking into.
