If an alien was to land in England today with a mission to understand earthlings, they’d be convinced that on Earth, everything can be true and untrue at the same time, depending on who the said truth is intended for. They’d also think they have strange obsessions with ‘foreigners’ (of the same species!) who will be always available to blame for everything that has gone wrong their badly organised society…
They would really struggle to understand what the role of the government in a place where everything is possible and impossible at the same time, where what was previously said no longer stands to be replaced by a totally different idea based on wild predictions, fake credit and emotional tinkering; they could only conclude that such a government can only rule in such a complicated society by adding confusion, blame and fantasy, to distract them from finding out the real problems of their system that started half a century ago.
The alien would make a note to self to check back in 10 years’ time and would go to the alien betting shop to bet on total collapse of the confusing system on Earth while his colleague would bet on total annihilation of the blue team that he can’t remember the name of in the next team picking game, which will save the system from collapsing but not from confusion, which will continue to plague Earth for at least 50 years, when the earthlings will have turned off the Internet and reintroduced libraries, debating societies, literary picnics, and other ancient practices.
